The Kankakee County Shop with a Cop event is set to return for its 34th year on Sunday, December 14, 2025. Organized by the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Department in partnership with the Bourbonnais Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies, the program aims to support underprivileged children in Kankakee County.
Financial donations are being accepted at the Bourbonnais Police Department located at 700 Main St. NW and at the Village of Bourbonnais office at 600 Main St. NW until Friday, December 12. Donations can be made in cash, coins, or checks payable to Bourbonnais FOP Lodge #64. Online contributions are also possible through Paypal.
Deputy Chief of Police Jason Sztuba stated, “The Bourbonnais Police Department looks forward to participating in Shop with a Cop every year. We appreciate the community’s support in making a difference this holiday season for area youth in need. Thank you to the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Department for hosting the annual event.”
During Shop with a Cop, officers pick up children from their homes, share breakfast together, and then shop for gifts for both themselves and their families. Each child also receives a basket of food to take home for a holiday meal.
The Village of Bourbonnais supports this initiative through its “Change for Children” campaign, which gathers donations from village employees, residents, businesses, and organizations across the community. Children who participate in Shop with a Cop are chosen based on recommendations from each school district.
