Charles E. Wehrle, Army National Guard Veteran and Skilled Woodworker, Dies at 89

Charles E. “Chuck” Wehrle, 89, of Bourbonnais, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Miller Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Chuck was born on January 19, 1936, in Clarion, IA, the son of Howell and Hattie (Hunter) Wehrle. Chuck married Nicolene Raimondo at St. Rose of Lima in Kankakee on June 25, 1960. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard and worked as a machinist at Bennett Industries and Crown, Cork & Seal until retirement. An accomplished woodworker, Chuck enjoyed creating custom furniture. He was passionate about square dancing and cherished time with his family, especially watching his children and grandchildren compete in sports. Chuck was a dedicated parishioner at Maternity BVM in Bourbonnais.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Nicolene; sons: Robert “Bob” (Margaret) Wehrle of Aroma Park, Patrick (Michelle) Wehrle of Bourbonnais, and Matthew (Rachel) Wehrle of Danforth; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; brothers Roger (Carol) Wehrle and Tony (Debbie) Wehrle; sister-in-law Carol Wehrle; and several nieces, nephews, and their families.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Joan Wehrle, and brothers Jim (Nell) Wehrle and Doug Wehrle.

Visitation will be at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais on Thursday, November 20, from 4-7 p.m. A funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Jason Nesbitt, will be held at Maternity BVM in Bourbonnais on Friday, November 21, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Bourbonnais.
