The Village of Bourbonnais has announced the donation of 6.63 acres of parkland by the Johnston family. These parcels, located next to Riverfront Park and featuring approximately 600 feet of river frontage, were contributed as part of a community initiative linked to the village's 'Imagine Bourbonnais' planning process.
This significant addition has prompted a temporary pause in the 'Imagine Bourbonnais' master planning and public engagement efforts for Riverfront Park. Mayor Paul Schore stated that this expansion "alters the scope of the project for the public."
Mayor Schore expressed gratitude towards the Johnston family, saying, "This unique gift from the Johnston family is invaluable. They have been exceptionally supportive and willing to work with the village to make this happen." He also thanked Larry Linman, a neighboring property owner, for facilitating connections with the donors.
Riverfront Park, situated at Canterbury Lane's end, spans 13.18 acres with about 1,120 feet of river frontage. It offers both active and passive recreational activities while preserving natural landscapes along the Kankakee River.
The new acreage will lead to a resumption of the 'Imagine Bourbonnais' campaign soon, inviting residents to engage in future planning processes.
Currently, Bourbonnais manages over 100 acres across 24 local parks offering various activities for all ages. The latest addition was a playground at The Grove at Goselin Park.
