Lighting contest illuminates Bourbonnais; winners announced

The Holiday Homes & Holly Jolly Lighting Contest in Bourbonnais, Illinois, sponsored by ComEd and Brandon Casey’s Comfort Crew, has announced its winners. The contest began on December 6 and will continue to light up the village until December 25. Participants competed in two categories: Traditional and People’s Choice.

In the Traditional category, first place was awarded to The Richmond Family at 636 Cherokee Dr., followed by Bryan and Lalah Lowry at 1200 Stratford Dr. W for second place, and The Bleyle Family at 1344 Mill Pond Rd. for third place. Merry Mentions were given to The Ramirez Family and James and Lisa DeVelder for fourth place, while The McCoy Family and Kevin and Gisela Kretzer received fifth place.

The People’s Choice category saw The Ramirez Family securing first place with 559 votes. They were followed by The Bleyle Family with 512 votes in second place, and James and Lisa DeVelder with 475 votes in third place. Merry Mentions went to The Bober Family with fourth place at 311 votes, while fifth place was awarded to The McCoy Family with 284 votes.

Bourbonnais Mayor Paul Schore expressed his gratitude towards all participants: “Congratulations to all 26 entries on their beautifully decorated homes,” he said. “We appreciate residents helping brighten up Bourbonnais and spread holiday cheer throughout the village with this fun and festive annual activity.”

Prizes included $100 Visa gift cards for first-place winners, $50 Visa gift cards for second-place winners, and $25 Visa gift cards for third-place winners, made possible by event sponsors.

The Traditional category was judged by a panel including resident Mary Schore, former winner Craig Toepfer, and sponsor Brandon Casey. Winners of the People’s Choice category were determined through public voting on Facebook from December 6 to December 15. A total of 4,150 votes were counted this year compared to last year's tally of 3,600.

Additionally, the Very Merry Coloring Contest concluded on December 18; results are pending announcement.
