Test expectations: How many Alan B. Shepard Elementary School students failed to meet the ELA IAR expectations in 2022-23 school year?

Alan B. Shepard Elementary School reported that 72.7% of its students failed the ELA portion of the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) test in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Illinois State Board of Education.

The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) assesses the progress of students in grades 3-8 in meeting the Illinois Learning Standards in English language arts and mathematics.

The percentage of fourth-grade and eighth-grade public school students performing at or above the NAEP Proficient level in reading in Illinois was not significantly different from the National level, according to the National Center for Education and Statistics.

A study conducted in December 2021 by the Institute of Education Sciences showed that students in grades 4-8 scored less in math than expected after the outbreak of the pandemic. More significant expected changes in learning occurred in grades 6-8 than in grades 4 and 5.

Assessment participation rates (all subjects, applicable groups) in 2023 are at or above the 95% testing threshold, according to the Illinois State Board of Education.
