49 Black students enrolled in Shabbona Elementary School in 2022-23 school year

There were 49 Black students enrolled in Shabbona Elementary School in the 2022-23 school year, 12.5% less than the previous year, according to the Illinois State Board of Education report.

Data showed that the school welcomed 264 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, Black students comprised 18.6% of the student body to be the second most represented ethnicity in the school.

The school is located in Bourbonnais School District 53 with a central office in Bourbonnais.

Among the five schools in Bourbonnais School District 53, Liberty Intermediate School recorded the highest enrollment of Black students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 718 students.

Illinois registered one of the largest enrollment drops during the pandemic. Since 2020, the Prarie State lost nearly 118,000 students, further intensifying a decline trend established since 2013.
